On Friday, February 23rd, engineers from BorgWarner volunteered to work with our 5th grade students in session #2 of our Fuel Cell Challenge, a SAE A World In Motion STEM curriculum. Ten local engineers shared their expertise with their teams to build and test a car powered by hydrogen and oxygen. After completing session #3, fifth grade students will be showcasing their STEM projects during STEM Night on Thursday, March 21st, along with other grade-level projects. Everyone is welcomed to attend.
Starting in 1987 to deliver STEM programming and diversify the STEM-talent pipeline, BorgWarner has contributed more than $1 million to the SAE Foundation. BorgWarner supports SAE’s Collegiate Design Series (CDS) and A World In Motion (AWIM) STEM education programs — recently receiving the Gordon Millar Award in 2019 which recognizes continuous philanthropic support of the SAE Foundation’s mission to encourage and increase diversity and student participation in STEM.
BorgWarner’s partnership is a great example of a mutually beneficial relationship impacting a community full of young learners, providing meaningful volunteer experiences for employees and building goodwill as a corporate citizen. You can find them in AWIM classrooms across the globe: Brazil, Canada, China, Luxembourg, Mexico, Poland, South Korea, Singapore, United Kingdom and the United States.
“BorgWarner has been a proud partner with the SAE Foundation since 1987. Since then, we’ve helped deliver STEM programming to teachers and students around the world. We strive to positively influence students to pursue educational and career paths in STEM-related fields through programs like AWIM (A World in Motion). It’s been amazing to see the growth of the students over the months and years of support. The feedback from our employees who volunteer in these programs has been phenomenal. They come back from their day at the school reinvigorated by the energy of the students! I believe that is why this partnership has worked for 37 years.”
